Group Head of Technical – Llansantffraid (Powys, SY22 6AQ)

We are now seeking a strategic and experienced Group Head of Technical to lead our technical, quality, and formulation strategy across all agri-product categories. This pivotal leadership role will ensure product integrity, supply chain assurance, and compliance, while driving continuous improvement and innovation across the Group.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Group Manufacturing and Logistics Director, your main responsibilities will include:

Technical Strategy, Governance & Risk

  • Developing and overseeing robust technical governance frameworks to safeguard product safety and integrity.
  • Maintaining the technical Business Continuity Plan (BCP), ensuring resilience from raw material sourcing to store delivery.
  • Managing technical risk and liability
  • Defining, tracking, and reporting on technical KPIs related to formulation accuracy, product consistency, and supply chain traceability.
  • Providing senior leadership with insight on technical performance, innovation opportunities, and risk exposure.

Product Control & Quality Consistency

  • Leading a group-wide product control framework ensuring end-to-end quality across all agri-products.
  • Standardising specification and conformance processes for feed, fertiliser, seed, and third-party products.
  • Driving consistency in product presentation, handling, and compliance across the store network.
  • Establishing and overseeing a transparent customer complaint and feedback process, using insights to fuel improvement initiatives.

Formulation Development & Optimisation (Gristing)

  • Overseeing the development, approval, and optimisation of feed, seed, and fertiliser formulations.
  • Balancing nutritional/performance targets, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance in formulation strategies.
  • Collaborating closely with nutrition, procurement, and commercial teams to maximise value through seasonal or ingredient-based optimisation.
  • Supporting bespoke or value-added feed solutions tailored to specific customer segments or new markets.

Manufacturing Quality & Compliance

  • Ensuring robust QA/QC systems are applied consistently across internal and outsourced manufacturing sites.
  • Driving continuous improvement in batch accuracy, mill performance, and formulation control.
  • Leading technical compliance and accreditations across sites, including UKAS, FEMAS, ISO, and customer standards.
  • Representing the business in technical audits.
  • Chairing or contributing to the Quality Steering Committee to drive ongoing quality strategy.

Supplier Governance & Procurement Support

  • Leading technical onboarding and due diligence of suppliers across feed, seed, fertiliser, and raw materials.
  • Defining clear technical specifications and traceability protocols aligned with sustainability and flexibility goals.
  • Collaborating with Procurement to respond to market trends affecting supply chain continuity and formulation adjustments.
  • Ensuring contracts reflect quality expectations and technical performance standards.

Innovation, Technical Services & Sustainability

  • Working with marketing and sales to ensure technical accuracy in product claims and materials.
  • Overseeing the development of technical documents, in-store leaflets, and agri-product advice guides.
  • Identifying and supporting feed innovation opportunities.
  • Championing sustainability efforts across product development, sourcing, packaging, and environmental impact reduction.

Leadership, Team Development & Culture

  • Leading a high-performing technical team across multiple sites, fostering a culture of ownership and quality.
  • Coaching and developing technical managers and QA leads, strengthening capability in quality assurance and formulation.
  • Providing internal training to operational and retail teams on technical standards, product handling, and issue resolution.

The Person

Key Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong leadership with a collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Deep understanding of quality assurance frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., ISO, FEMAS, UKAS).
  • Proven ability to drive technical governance across complex, multi-site operations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in agricultural, feed, or manufacturing industries is highly desirable.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • PHD level Food Science Degree in a relevant technical or scientific discipline (e.g., Agriculture, Animal Science, Food Technology, or Engineering).
  • Minimum 7–10 years in technical leadership roles, ideally within agriculture, animal nutrition, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable experience leading teams and implementing quality management systems at a senior level.

Mill Maintenance Engineer – Llansantffraid (SY22 6AQ)

Wynnstay, a leading UK agricultural supplies business, is seeking a skilled and proactive Mill Maintenance Engineer to help maintain and improve our Llansantffraid Mill operations. Reporting directly to the Mill Engineering Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all mechanical and electrical equipment critical to the production of high-quality animal feed.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will:

  • Carry out proactive maintenance routines on all electrical and mechanical plant and equipment to prevent downtime and extend asset life.
  • Respond quickly and safely to breakdowns, working to minimise disruption to production.
  • Support and monitor contractor activity on-site, including issuing and overseeing work permits.
  • Ensure all work meets compliance standards, including external codes (e.g. UFAS) and internal policies (e.g. ladder register, permit systems).
  • Communicate effectively with the wider maintenance team, Mill staff, and the Site Manufacturing Manager to coordinate maintenance activity.
  • Uphold the Group’s Health & Safety and environmental standards at all times.
  • Carry out any additional tasks as delegated by the National Engineering Manager.

The Person

  • Experience in a mechanical, electrical or multiskilled maintenance or engineering role (experience in feed, milling, or similar process industries is beneficial).
  • Holds relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering).
  • Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • A proactive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team and independently under pressure.
  • A strong awareness of safe systems of work and compliance processes.
  • Flexible to support call-outs or shifts when required.

Shift Pattern: Days: 7.00am-3.00pm, Afternoons: 3.00pm-11.00pm, Nights: 11.00pm-7.00am

Mill Operator – Carmarthen (Carmarthenshire, SA31 3SG)

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Effectively performing routine Mill Operator tasks, including a variety of cleaning duties, to support the daily operation of the Mill
  • Working safely within a noisy and dusty environment whilst operating the plant machinery
  • Carrying out quality control for raw material intake and finished product
  • Ensuring compliance with various quality procedures and regulations, including HACCP and COSH
  • Ensuring that all health and safety, and UFAS procedures are followed, and ensuring that any necessary changes in procedures are properly implemented
  • Assisting the maintenance team with breakdowns as required
  • Operating a forklift truck whilst adhering to requisite Health and Safety standards
  • Adhering to Wynnstay policies and procedures, bringing any non-compliance issues to the attention of the Mill Production Supervisor

Feed Milling/Manufacturing Operative – Tamar Milling, Holsworthy

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Operating and monitoring a range of milling, mixing and bagging machinery safely and efficiently
  • Loading and weighing raw materials in line with production specifications
  • Effectively performing routine tasks, including a variety of cleaning duties
  • Performing regular manual handling tasks, including lifting and moving feed sacks and materials
  • Operating forklifts and telehandlers to load/unload lorries and move goods around site (training can be provided)
  • Supporting preventative maintenance routines and basic fault reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with various health, safety, hygiene and compliance procedures (incl. UFAS & Feed Safety regulations)
  • Working effectively as part of a team to meet production targets and deadlines

The Person

The successful candidate:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or a similar environment (preferred)
  • Can carry out a manual handling role, and be able to lift up to 25kg in a safe manner
  • Counterbalance Forklift and/or Telehandler experience, with appropriate licence/s (desirable)
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to health and safety
  • Able to demonstrate basic knowledge on agricultural products

Customer Service & Administration Assistant – Tamar Milling, Holsworthy

40 hours/week

Monday-Friday (8.00am-5.00pm), in addition to occasional Saturday mornings (8.30am-10.30am) once a month/when required.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading UK agricultural business during an exciting period of growth and development, where your work directly supports the success of our customers and the wider farming community.

The Opportunity

Playing a vital role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and excellent customer service, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Mill Administration team to ensure feed production, deliveries, collections and transfers to branches are managed efficiently and accurately
  • Effectively dealing with incoming customer and staff enquiries over the phone and in-person
  • Processing and recording feed orders in a timely, accurate manner
  • Scheduling deliveries and communicating with hauliers and suppliers
  • Supporting with compliance and quality control duties
  • Providing ongoing general support to the Mill Administration and Weighbridge Operating team as required

The Person

The successful candidate:

  • Previous experience within an administrative environment (desirable)
  • High degree of computer literacy including Microsoft Word and Excel Packages
  • Strong communicator with confident telephone manner
  • Can deliver high levels of customer service
  • Flexible in taking on a wide range of tasks
  • Demonstrates a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn and support our business
  • Passion for agriculture and the farmer customer (desirable)
