New Montrose facility to double fertiliser blending capacity and strengthen platform for growth across Scotland

Wynnstay Group plc has announced a significant investment in its Scottish operations through the expansion of Glasson Fertilisers‘ blending capacity in Montrose.

The investment marks another important milestone in the delivery of Strategy Genesis, Wynnstay’s growth strategy focused on investing in the Group’s strongest opportunities, improving operational efficiency and enhancing returns from its manufacturing asset base.

The project will see Glasson Fertilisers relocate to a substantially larger facility at Barrack Road, Montrose, where a new high-capacity fertiliser blending plant will be installed. Once operational, the new facility is expected to double blending capacity in Scotland, creating a modern manufacturing platform capable of supporting future growth across the Scottish market.

The investment reflects the hard work, expertise and collaboration of colleagues across Wynnstay Group, working closely with key external partners, including Tony Chahoud, Sales Manager EMEA at AGI, and James Doyle, Group Managing Director at Rix, to bring the project from concept to reality. It is designed to strengthen the business’s ability to serve existing customer demand while providing the infrastructure and capacity required to support long-term expansion.

To ensure uninterrupted customer service throughout the transition, production will continue from the existing Cobden Street facility while the new site is developed and commissioned. Both locations are expected to operate in parallel for a period, with the new facility scheduled to be fully operational during the first half of 2027, ahead of the peak spring fertiliser season.

The development builds on the successful expansion of Wynnstay’s Avonmouth fertiliser operation and further strengthens the Group’s manufacturing network.

Alk Brand, Chief Executive Officer of Wynnstay Group plc, said:

“This investment is another important milestone in the delivery of Strategy Genesis and demonstrates our confidence in the long-term growth opportunities for Glasson Fertilisers and Scottish agriculture.

The new Montrose facility will double our blending capacity in Scotland, enhance operational efficiency and provide the infrastructure needed to support future growth and customer demand. It represents a significant commitment to our Scottish operations and the customers we serve.

This milestone has been made possible by the dedication, expertise and collaborative efforts of colleagues across Wynnstay and Glasson Fertilisers who have worked hard to bring these plans together. Following the successful expansion of our Avonmouth fertiliser operation, this investment further strengthens our manufacturing network and reflects our disciplined approach to investing in projects that deliver long-term value. We are looking forward to bringing the new facility into operation ahead of the 2027 spring season and creating a modern platform from which to continue growing our business in Scotland.”

Once complete, the development is expected to create one of the largest fertiliser blending facilities in Europe, providing a strong foundation for the continued growth of Glasson Fertilisers and supporting Wynnstay’s broader ambitions across Scotland.
