Wynnstay successfully unveiled its new “Heifer To Herd” concept at UK Dairy Day 2026, showcasing the latest advances in calf and heifer nutrition designed to help dairy farmers improve productivity, efficiency and long-term herd performance.
The new concept, developed by Wynnstay’s Technical team, attracted strong interest from visitors keen to learn more about emerging approaches to successful heifer rearing. The Heifer to Herd programme brings together the latest research, focusing on optimising metabolisable protein (MP) supply alongside the strategic use of starch to support accelerated development during the critical pre-pubertal growth phase.
Throughout the event, Wynnstay’s Technical Services Team met with dairy producers from across the UK to discuss how targeted nutritional management can help unlock an animal’s genetic potential earlier in life, supporting improved growth, feed efficiency and future milking performance.

The concept is built around three key nutritional principles:

- Elevated metabolisable protein supply to support lean tissue deposition and mammary development.
- Strategic inclusion of highly digestible starch to fuel growth and stimulate rumen development.
Visitors to the stand also heard about encouraging early results from on-farm trials, which have demonstrated improvements in daily liveweight gain, frame growth, rumen development and feed conversion efficiency.
Rebecca added: “The UK average age at first calving is 28 months. Heifer To Herd is more than just a concept, it’s a product and road map to get your heifers to where they need to be for calving at 24 months of age. It’s backed by the latest science and research designed to rapidly develop the rumen producing strong, productive heifers.”
As part of its presence at UK Dairy Day, Wynnstay showcased its latest nutritional innovations and specialist support services, reinforcing its commitment to helping dairy producers maximise herd performance and profitability from calf through to calving.
