This week, recently refurbished Wynnstay House opened its doors for a special Heritage Evening, welcoming members of the local community and key stakeholders to celebrate the site’s rich history.
Now home to colleagues from across the Group, Wynnstay House has been sympathetically transformed from its original status as a railway station to a modern office facility which also serves as the central hub for the business, making it a fitting venue to reflect on Wynnstay’s journey and its enduring connection to rural Mid Wales.
The event was designed to foster meaningful connections, with guests including representatives from the local council, Powys County Council, the Young Farmers Federation, and the Women’s Institute. Their attendance reflected the collaborative spirit that has shaped Wynnstay’s journey for over 100 years.
Attendees were treated to guided tours of the historic Wynnstay House, where stories of the past came to life. The evening offered a chance to reflect on Wynnstay’s agricultural heritage and its deep-rooted ties to the Llansantffraid area, particularly within a 10-mile radius of the mill, where the company continues to invest in local partnerships and community initiatives.
Wynnstay’s origins are steeped in cooperation and shared purpose. From the formation of farming collectives after the First World War to the establishment of the Llansantffraid and District Farmers’ Association in 1918, the company’s foundations were built on mutual support. The opening of the first depot in 1922 and the construction of the feed mill in 1931 marked key milestones in Wynnstay’s growth. The site itself, once home to the Llansantffraid railway station, remains a symbol of rural resilience and progress.
In a nod to the site’s past, guests were served locally bottled beer which was inspired by Vrynwy Brewery, a Victorian 3 storey brewery which operated on the site in the late 19th century.

Steve Ellwood, Chairman of Wynnstay Group, shared “The Heritage Evening was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our roots and celebrate the values that continue to guide us. It was inspiring to see the community come together and share their memories.”

Alk Brand, CEO of Wynnstay Group, added “Wynnstay’s story is deeply intertwined with the local community. This evening was about honouring that connection and looking ahead with a shared sense of purpose.”
“We were delighted to attend the Heritage Evening at Wynnstay House. Wynnstay plays a vital role in our area, and we value the strong relationship we have maintained over the years.”
The evening served not only as a celebration of Wynnstay’s legacy but also as a reaffirmation of its commitment to community, continuity, and future growth.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening a memorable success.
